SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team fell to Metropolitan State University Denver in a 3-0 sweep on Saturday night.
The Roadrunners took all three sets, and the scores went as follows: 25-17, 25-19, and 25-15.
Black Hills State falls to 10-13 overall and 7-7 in conference action, while MSU Denver improves to 16-7 on the season and 13-2 in conference play.
In set one, the Roadrunners jumped out to a 7-2 lead with Stephanie Laraway serving for six points on the 6-0 run that started at 2-1. From there, the Yellow Jackets cut the lead to three at 7-4. However, it was not enough, as the Roadrunners increased the lead and took the set, 25-17, and the lead, 1-0, in the match.
In the second set, the Yellow Jackets threatened a comeback toward the end. At 20-12, the Green and Gold scored four points to come within five.
Ellise Lech smashed one down to start the run, followed by three Roadrunner errors to close the gap to 20-15. However, MSU Denver closed out the set at 25-19, and took a 2-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets were unable to find their momentum, as MSU Denver took a commanding 10-3 lead in set three, and put it away at 25-15 to win the match 3-0.
Ellise Lech led the offense with 10 kills and a .222 hitting percentage.
Kenzie Kazmer was right behind with eight kills.
Laurel Lech notched 20 assists.
On defense,
Sydney Ederhoff grabbed 12 digs, while
Cheyenne Palu blocked five shots. The team combined for seven blocks total.
Black Hills State returns to action at home on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4 to host Regis and Chadron State. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
