VB: Yellow Jackets Travel to Chadron State and No. 10 Regis

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University volleyball travels to Chadron, Nebraska, and Denver, Colorado, to face Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents Chadron State and No. 10 Regis University on Friday, October 6, and Saturday, October 7. First serve is set for 6 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Chadron State owns a 4-10 record and a 1-5 conference record. BHSU and CSC meet for the 16th time since 2009. Black Hills State leads the series, 11-4. Since joining the RMAC in 2012, the Yellow Jackets are 10-2 in the series.

In 51 sets played, making 10 starts in 14 matches, Dominika Senkerikova has tallied 136 kills with a 2.67 kill per set average. Madison Webb works alongside Senkerikova, notching 342 assists with a 6.71 assist per set average.

On defense, Emily Bruce leads the way for the Eagles with 209 digs and a 4.10 dig per set average. McKenna Hartigan helps on the defense, as she has notched 25 blocks in 48 sets. Hartigan averages 0.52 blocks per set, and of her 25 blocks, seven were solo.

Regis is ranked 10th in the nation with a 14-1 overall record and are undefeated in RMAC action at 6-0. BHSU and RU meet for the 12th time since 2011. Regis leads the all-time series, 11-0. The Rangers landed one on the Preseason All-RMAC team in Kelsey Green. Green earned 2016 Freshman of the Year honors and was named First Team All-RMAC at the end of the 2016 season.

Green leads the offense with 192 kills, ranking fifth in the conference. Green ranks eighth for kills per set with a 3.37 average. In 57 sets, Green has notched 576 total attacks to lead the conference, while she ranks fourth for a 10.11 attack per set average.

Silvia Basso works alongside Green on the offense. Basso has registered 613 assists to rank second in the conference. In 57 sets, Basso has averaged 10.75 assists, to place fourth in the conference.

On defense, Caitlyn Burroway has registered 197 digs with a 3.46 dig per set average. Nikki Kennedy works alongside Burroway. Kennedy has received Defensive Player of the Week honors twice so far this season. Kennedy ranks second in the conference with a 1.19 block per set average and ranks third in the conference, and second on the team, for total blocks with 68. Kennedy also leads the team and ranks second in the conference with a .383 hitting percentage.

Kristen Hornung joins Kennedy on the defense, as she has earned Player of the Week honors twice, once each for defense and offense. Hornung leads the team and ranks second in the RMAC with 72 blocks, and leads the conference with a 1.26 block per set average. Hornung ranks third in the conference with a .357 hitting percentage.

As a team, the Rangers rank second in the conference for hitting percentage (.264), assists (707), and kills (753). They rank fifth in assists per set with a 12.40 average, and sixth for kills per set with a 13.21 average. Regis leads the conference for blocks and blocks per set with 147.5 total (eighth nationally) and a 2.59 average (sixth nationally). The Rangers rank fourth for digs with 850, and ninth for a 14.91 dig per set average.

Black Hills State enters the weekend with a 6-9 record and a 3-3 RMAC record.

Sierra Stugelmeyer leads the offense with 140 kills and a 2.22 kill per set average. Stugelmeyer owns a .204 hitting percentage in 63 sets played. Laurel Lech assists on offense, as she has notched 565 assists to rank fourth in the conference, and averages 8.97 assists per set to rank eighth in the RMAC.

On defense, Sydney Ederhoff leads the team and the conference with 291 digs. The Centennial, Colorado, native ranks third with 4.62 digs per set. In 63 sets, Ederhoff has registered 13 service aces to rank second on the team.

Cheyenne Palu has recorded 74 blocks to lead the conference, and ranks ninth nationally. Palu, also ranks third in the RMAC with a 1.17 block per set average.

The Yellow Jackets rank 10th nationally in blocks, and are second in the conference for blocks (141.0), attacks per set (37.52), digs per set (16.63), and blocks per set (2.24). BHSU leads the conference for attacks (2,364) and digs (1,048). The Green and Gold rank fourth for assists (680) and fifth for kills (720).

Following the weekend, the Green and Gold travel to Rapid City, South Dakota, on Tuesday, October 10 to take on South Dakota Mines and then to Salt Lake City, Utah, on Saturday, October 14, to face Westminster. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
