DENVER, Colo. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team fell to No. 10 Regis University on Saturday night, 3-0.
The sets went as follows: 25-15, 25-13, and 25-16.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 6-11 overall, and 3-5 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, while the Rangers improve to 16-2 on the season, and 8-0 in RMAC action.
In set one, the two teams traded off points until eight-all, when the Rangers went on a 6-0 run to increase the lead to 14-8. The run ended off an attack error by Regis.
The Yellow Jackets were unable to find their momentum as the Rangers ended the set, 25-15, and took a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Green and Gold found their momentum in set two, as the two teams traded off points until 12-all. From there, the Rangers went on a 7-0 run to lead, 19-12.
Sierra Stugelmeyer ended the run with a kill to trail, 19-13. It was not enough though, as Regis ended the set, 25-13, and led, 2-0, in the match.
In the third set, the two teams traded off points until 11-all, when a kill by Kelsey Green started a 6-0 run, which was enough to win the set, 25-16, and take the match, 3-0.
Ellise Lech led the offense with nine kills, followed by
Kenzie Kazmer with seven. Kazmer tallied a .333 hitting percentage.
Laurel Lech recorded 21 assists.
On defense,
Sydney Ederhoff and
Valerie Blake each had nine digs.
Cheyenne Palu, E. Lech, and
Fehrin Ward all worked together, registering two blocks each.
Following the weekend, Black Hills State heads to Rapid City, South Dakota, to take on rival South Dakota Mines on Tuesday, October 10. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
