MBB: Malcolm's Double-Double Leads BHSU to Victory in Season Opener

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Fraser Malcolm's double-double carried the Black Hills State University men's basketball team to its season opener win against the Yellowstone Christian Centurions on Friday night, 86-52.

Wyatt Krogman led the offense with 13 points, while Malcolm scored 12 and grabbed a team high 11 rebounds, seven of them offensively. Mckaleb McInnis scored his first double-digit game with 11 points.

In the first half, the Centurions had a four-point lead at 6-2 until Zach McLemore started an 11-0 run for the Yellow Jackets. Stefan Desnica tied the game, 6-6, with 11:51 remaining in the half.

From there, the Green and Gold grabbed the lead and held on to it. With 2:18 left in the first, Malcolm increased the Yellow Jacket lead to 12 with a layup.
Black Hills State closed out the first half, 38-27, and Malcolm led with eight points.

After the intermission, the Green and Gold ran away with it. Freshman McInnis knocked down two free throws to give BHSU a 17-point lead at 50-33, with 15:42 left in the game.

In the final minute and a half, Logan Dreier and Spencer Ederhoff saw their first collegiate floor time, with Dreier scoring his first set of collegiate points from beyond the arc to go up, 78-52. Ederhoff hit one from downtown with under a minute to play to give the Yellow Jackets a 31-point lead. Dreier nailed his second three of the night to end the game at 86-52, and give BHSU its first win of the season.

Malcolm notched his fourth career double-double, while Krogman had his 24th double-figure game. Alongside Malcolm and Krogman, McInnis notched 11 points. Dreier and Ederhoff each scored their first set of collegiate points with six and three, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Centurions, 48-25, in the second half. Black Hills State went 30-of-65 (46.2 percent) from the field, 10-of-30 (33.3 percent) from downtown, and 16-of-24 (66.7 percent) from the line.

On defense, Malcolm tallied his fourth double-figure rebound game, grabbing 11 on the night. The Green and Gold out rebounded the Centurions, 46-29.

Black Hills State returns Saturday night, in a back-to-back matchup with the Centurions. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m.
