MANKATO, Minn. – Julia Seamans's double-double and Rachel Erickson's 23 points carried the Black Hills State University women's basketball team to its first win over Minnesota State University-Mankato, 67-44, and its third win of the season on Tuesday evening.
Seamans grabbed 10 rebounds, six of them offensively, and dropped 16 points, while Erickson scored 23 points for her second 20-point game of the season.
At the end of the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets (3-0) and the Mavericks (0-3) were tied at 14. The two teams kept it close the next two quarters, as Black Hills State scored 14 points in both the second and third quarters.
In the fourth, BHSU ran away with it, outscoring the Mavericks and holding them to only four points in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets had a nine-point lead at 51-42. From there, Keely Bertram rang one in from downtown to start an 11-0 run. Mackenzie Dahl hit a jumper to end the Green and Gold run at 61-44.
From there, the Yellow Jackets scored five more points to end the game, and claim their first win over the Mavericks at 67-44.
Black Hills State edged out Minnesota State on rebounds, 38-34. The Yellow Jackets shot 42.6 percent from the floor, 38.9 from beyond the arc, and 70.0 percent from the line.
Erickson led the team with 23 points, while Seamans was right behind with 16 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. Remi Wientjes notched a career-high six assists.
The Green and Gold will return to action on Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18, hosting Grace University and Johnson & Wales. Tipoff slated for 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
