WBB: Rich Scores 16 Off Bench in Yellow Jackets Win

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Lyndzi Rich scored 16 points off the bench to help carry the Black Hills State University women's basketball team to victory over the Grace University Royals, 96-43, on Friday night.

Rich led the offense going 8-of-9 from the field. Cortez Standing Bear notched a career-high 14 points and five steals.

In the first quarter, Rachel Erickson ran straight to the net, where Julia Seamans dumped it down to her to get the Yellow Jackets on the board first. Three minutes later, Jasmine White of the Royals hit a jumper from the top of the key to tie the game, 2-2.

From there, the Green and Gold grabbed the lead back with Erickson knocking one down from downtown and kept it. With less than a minute remaining, Racquel Wientjes hit two shots from the line to give the Yellow Jackets an eight-point lead, and Hannah Cass closed out the quarter with a last second layup, as BHSU held a 10-point lead at 20-10.

The Green and Gold momentum continued into the second, as Katie Messler knocked down the first three shots for the Yellow Jackets for a 6-0 run and increased the lead to 26-10. From there, Black Hills State ran away with it and held the Royals to just six points in the second quarter.

Alongside Rich and Standing Bear, Keely Bertram scored 11 points, while Haley Schneider had a career-high 10.

On defense, Rich and Erickson each had a team-high seven rebounds.
