VB: Yellow Jackets Fall, 3-0, to Rangers in First RMAC Tournament

DENVER, Colo. – The Black Hills State University volleyball fell in its first ever postseason match to Regis University on Tuesday night, 3-0.

The Rangers swept the Yellow Jackets in three sets, and the scores went as follows: 25-22, 25-23, and 25-18.

In the first set, the two teams traded off points until 6-all. Nikki Kennedy gave the Rangers the go-ahead point with a kill. RU continued to lead up to 16-10.

At 16-10, the Rangers gave up six points and let the Yellow Jackets back into the set. The Green and Gold wen on a 6-0 run to tie the set back up at 16-all. The run started with Ellise Lech smashing one down. However, that run was not enough, as Regis ended the set at 25-22, and took a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set, the two teams traded off points until 18-all. Kristen Hornung landed a kill to give the Rangers the go-ahead point at 19-18. From there, the Yellow Jackets came within one to threaten the set at 24-23, but the Rangers grabbed the last point to end the set at 25-23, and take a 2-0 lead.

In the third set, the two teams traded off points until 13-all. The Yellow Jackets grabbed their first lead of the match with Carissa Becerra hitting one past the Ranger defense to go up, 14-13. The Green and Gold kept the lead until 17-all. From there, Regis took the lead back and held on to it to close out the set at 25-18, and end the match, 3-0.

E. Lech led the offense with nine kills, with Kenzie Kazmer right behind with seven. Laurel Lech worked alongside Kazmer and E. Lech, notching 23 assists.

On defense, Sydney Ederhoff recorded 10 digs, while Fehrin Ward and Cheyenne Palu blocked four shots each.

The Yellow Jackets end their season 11-17 overall, while Regis moves on to the second round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a 26-3 record.
