MISSOULA, Mont. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team fell in an exhibition match to the University of Montana, 70-46, on Tuesday evening.
Julia Seamans led the way for the Yellow Jackets, scoring 15 points. She was 5-for-9 from beyond the arc.
Keely Bertram finished with 12 points and a team-high six rebounds. BHSU outscored Montana, 18-15, in the third quarter.
The Green and Gold came out aggressive against the Division I Grizzlies. Less than a minute into the game, Seamans sank her first three-pointer of the game to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. After Montana tied the game, 5-5,
Remi Wientjes hit a jumper in the paint, and BHSU led, 7-5. UM responded with an eight-point run to take a 10-point lead at 17-7, a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the game.
The Yellow Jackets were outscored, 18-6, in the second period, as the Griz took a 39-18 lead into halftime. However, the second half began like the first period, with BHSU scoring the first five points of the quarter, again beginning with a three-pointer from Seamans. The Green and Gold went on to outscore Montana, 18-15, in the period. The Division I foe was too much, however, outscoring Black Hills State, 16-10, in the fourth, and taking the win, 70-46, in the exhibition game.
BHSU shot 25.5 percent from the field (13-for-51), while Montana was 38.6 percent from the floor (22-for-57). The Yellow Jackets were 8-for-22 (36.4 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Grizzlies were 5-for-17 (29.4 percent) on three-pointers. The Green and Gold were edged out in rebounds, 39-38.
???????Madi Schoening had a game-high 19 points, and Hailey Nicholson had 14 points for the Griz.
The Green and Gold open regular season play on Friday, November, 7. The Yellow Jackets welcome Texas A&M-Kingsville in a non-conference matchup that is slated to tipoff at 6 p.m. in the Young Center.
