SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Yellow Jacket men's basketball team fell to MSU Denver on Saturday evening, 62-56.
Dez Stoudamire led the way for the Yellow Jackets (4-2, 1-1 RMAC) with 17 points, while
Fraser Malcolm finished with 10 points.
Antonio Capley had eight rebounds and three blocks.
The Roadrunners (3-5, 2-0 RMAC) jumped out to a 7-2 cushion in the first two minutes, and never relinquished the lead. It ballooned out to as many as 11 points in the first half, and MSU Denver led, 30-25, at the break.
The Yellow Jackets fought back in the second half, coming within one point after
Zach McLemore made a layup with 13:51 remaining. The Roadrunners pushed the lead back out to 10 points, at 54-44, with 5:37 remaining. The Green and Gold came within four twice more in the final five minutes, but were never able to inch closer, ultimately falling, 62-56.
BHSU shot 31.3 percent from the field (15-for-48), while MSUD was 46.9 percent from the floor (23-for-49). The Yellow Jackets were 7-for-25 (28.0 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Roadrunners were 5-for-17 (29.4 percent) on three-pointers. The Green and Gold were edged in rebounds, 39-34.
Cameron Williams led all scorers with 25 points, while Bounama Keita had a double-double (11 points, 12 rebounds) for the Roadrunners.
The Green and Gold next go on the road for an RMAC tilt with Colorado School of Mines on Friday, December 8, at 7:30 p.m.
