Box Score 2 ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Black Hills State University softball team earned its first two wins of the season defeating Minnesota State University-Moorhead in game one 7-3 and Minot State University in game two 1-0.

The Green and Gold improve to 2-4 on the season while MSU-Moorhead falls to 0-1 overall and Minot State falls to 1-5 overall.
Game One: BHSU 7 MSUM 3
Minnesota State Moorhead heated up in the first inning taking a quick 2-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets. Carly Williamson bunted to start it off for the Dragons. Aunica Novacek grounded out to the pitcher for a sacrifice bunt to advance Williamson to second. Madison Paige stepped up to the plate to hit a home run to score Williamson for the 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first,
Morgan Smith singled to left center to land on base. Following Smith,
Kindall Bethke stepped up and doubled to left field to advance Smith into scoring position at third base. With two outs,
Pamela Sakuma was hit by a pitch to fill the bases.
Katelyn Odle secured a hit to left field to score Smith and advance Sakuma and Bethke a base to trail by one, 2-1.
The Yellow Jackets went on to score a run in both the second and fourth innings to take the lead 3-2. In the bottom of the second with two outs,
Lexi Baker got walked, then Smith tripled to center field to score Baker and tie the game at 2-2.
In the fourth inning,
Stefanie Witman walked while
Makenzi Strong came in to pinch run for Witman.
Samantha Schoen hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Strong to second who then proceeded to steal third. Baker stepped up to bat and singled to shortstop to advance Strong home to give the Yellow Jackets the go-ahead run, 3-2.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Black Hills State started heating up. Smith bunted the ball for a single to land on base. Following Smith, Bethke reached on a fielder's choice and advanced Smith to second.
Lauren Lesniak filled the bases with a single to left field. Sakuma hit a single to left field to score Smith and Bethke. Vasquez, who pinch ran for Lesniak, scored on an error to give BHSU a 6-2 lead.
The Green and Gold's final run came from Odle sending a hit up the middle to allow Sakuma to score and increase the lead 7-2. Black Hills State closed the game out 7-3 earning its first win of the season.
Smith led the Yellow Jacket offense going 3-for-4. Smith tallied an RBI, a triple and two runs. Sakuma went 1-for-2, tallying two RBI and 13 putouts on defense.
Stefanie Witman picked up the win for the Yellow Jackets striking out five batters. Jordan Hall of the Dragons saw her first career collegiate start in the circle and was charged with the loss.
Game Two: BHSU 1 MSU 0
One-run in the first inning is all the Yellow Jackets needed to secure a shutout against Minot State as
Alex Wiley pitched a complete game three hitter, striking out seven batters.
In the first inning, Wiley walked as
Maddie London singled to advance Wiley to second. Sakuma stepped up and singled to send Wiley home and earn the only run of the game.
The Yellow Jackets tallied three hits, a run and a RBI in its second victory of the day.
Black Hills State returns to action Friday in a doubleheader against Minnesota State University, Crookston and Minot State with first pitch scheduled for 9 a.m.
