SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held its fifth annual Polar Plunge event to help raise money for the South Dakota Special Olympics.
"This year's fundraising efforts put us over the $10,000 mark in total donations to the South Dakota Special Olympics Polar Plunge from BHSU Athletics over the past five years, which is incredible," said advisor
Korie Lebeda.
The event took place Sunday, February 26 at the Spearfish Recreation Center. There were 19 athletes that represented several of the BHSU sports teams who jumped on the cold, brisk 34-degree day and helped raise a total of $2,850.
"I know our athletes look forward to plunging every year, and they love supporting the Special Olympic athletes," Lebeda added.
"It is always a great thing when our athletes can work together, share their support for our community and a great cause, and can have a little fun with it in the process."
The polar plunge continues to raise its donations every year and the BHSU SAAC program raised more money this year than last year in its efforts to contribute to the South Dakota Special Olympics.
