SB: Yellow Jackets Make Home Debut Hosting Colorado Mines

SPEARFISH, S.D.- After a cancellation due to weather last weekend, the Black Hills State University softball team will make its home debut March 18 and 19 hosting Colorado Mines. First pitch is slated for noon on Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.

After finishing last season 20-24 overall and 17-17 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado Mines was picked to finish eighth according to the coaches. The Orediggers currently rank third with a 10-2 conference record and 13-5 overall.

Orediggers infielder Clara Larson averages a .444 batting average in 18 games. In 28 hits with 63 at-bats, Larson leads the offense with 19 RBIs and six home runs. Out of the 13 wins, Larson has scored 19 runs.

Colorado Mines first basemen Boston Ludlow owns a .986 fielding percentage. Ludlow has tallied 137 putouts and six assists against just two errors. Out of those 137 putouts, Ludlow has registered 11 double plays.

In the circle, Hallie Smith owns a 2.69 ERA and a 5-3 record. Smith has made nine starts for the Orediggers and tallied eight complete games and three saves. In 65 innings pitched, Smith has struck out 29 batters.

Morgan Smith leads the Yellow Jackets offense with a .413 batting average and 11 runs scored. In 16 games, Smith has tallied four RBIs and three triples. Alongside Smith, Kindall Bethke owns a .317 batting average and leads the team with seven RBIs in 13 hits.

First baseman Pamela Sakuma has tallied 100 put outs with three assists in 15 games. At the plate, Sakuma has hit five RBIs in seven hits.

Alex Wiley leads the pitchers with six complete games and eight starts. In 46.2 innings pitched, Wiley has tallied 31 strikeouts. Wiley owns five RBIs in five hits and three doubles at the plate.

Since joining the RMAC in 2012, Colorado Mines leads the Yellow Jackets 15-1 in the all-time series.

Following the weekend, Black Hills State hits the road and travels to Chadron State for a four-game series March 25 and 26. First pitch is scheduled for noon and 11 a.m., respectively.
