SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University softball team hits the road to Denver, Colorado, to face Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent Metropolitan State University of Denver on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15. First pitch is slated for noon both days.
MSU Denver ranks second in the conference with a 30-13 and 22-6 conference record after splitting games this past weekend against Chadron State.
Senior Cassidy Smith earned preseason All-Conference team honors. In the circle, Smith leads the pitchers with a 2.78 ERA. In 105.2 innings, Smith has thrown 40 strikeouts and pitched 10 complete games. Joining Smith, Hayley Fields owns a 3.23 ERA and a 12-3 record. Fields has pitched 106.1 innings throwing 43 strikeouts and pitching 10 complete games in 18 starts.
Annika Anderson leads the Roadrunners with a .453 batting average. Anderson has played and started all 43 games this season for MSU Denver and has tallied 62 hits in 137 at-bats. In those 62 hits, Anderson has scored 41 runs, 34 RBIs and six home runs.
Black Hills State owns a 5-27 and 3-21 RMAC record.
Kindall Bethke leads the team in batting average with a .356. Bethke has tallied 13 RBIs, six doubles and seven runs scored in 31 hits for the Yellow Jacket offense.
Lexi Baker is right behind Bethke with a .333 batting average. In 20 hits, Baker has registered eight runs scored and four RBIs.
Alex Wiley leads the BHSU pitchers with a 4.81 ERA. In 99 innings pitched, Wiley has tallied 49 strikeouts and two shutouts. Wiley has pitched 11 complete games in 14 starts.
Following the weekend, the Green and Gold return home to host RMAC opponent Regis University on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23 for a four-game series. First pitch is set for noon on Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.
