SB: Yellow Jackets Await Rangers Arrival

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University softball team returns home to host Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent Regis University in a four-game series Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23. First pitch is scheduled for noon and 11 a.m., respectively.

The Yellow Jackets will be hosting a First Responders Day on Sunday with representatives from the Spearfish Fire Department, Spearfish Police Department, Spearfish Emergency Ambulance Service and Lawrence County Sheriff's Office that responded to the tragic house fire on April 1 that took the lives of five young children. The team will be sporting the names of the children on their uniforms, T-shirts will be on sale at the game, and the proceeds will go to the families.

Regis owns a 24-24 record on the season and 16-16 in conference to rank sixth in the RMAC. The Rangers had Alyssa Finger and Macy Cox named to the RMAC Preseason All-Conference team.

Finger owns a .304 batting average with 38 hits in 125 at-bats. Finger has tallied four home runs, 18 runs scored and 25 RBIs in 45 games played. Teammate Carlie Sexton leads the team with a .364 batting average. In 151 at-bats, Sexton registered 55 hits with 25 RBIs, 19 runs scored, and four home runs. Sexton ranks third in the conference for at-bats.

Junior pitcher Logan Losh ranks third in the conference for ERA. Losh owns a 2.20 ERA and 19-9 record. In 178.1 innings pitched, Losh has struck out 133 batters. She has thrown 23 complete games with five shutouts. Losh ties for first place in the conference for most wins at 19.

Black Hills State holds a 5-31 record overall and 3-25 in the RMAC.

Freshman Kindall Bethke leads the team with a .351 batting average with 34 hits in 97 at-bats. Bethke has registered 13 RBIs, seven doubles and nine runs scored for the Yellow Jacket offense. Joining Bethke, freshman Lexi Baker ranks second on the team with a .333 batting average. In 20 games, Baker has scored eight runs and four RBIs in 20 hits.

In the circle, Alex Wiley leads the pitchers with a 4.76 ERA. In 111.2 innings pitched, Wiley has thrown 13 complete games with two shutouts and 56 strikeouts.

Following the weekend, the Yellow Jackets sidestep out of conference action to face Dickinson State University in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 25. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
