SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team fell to No. 23 Colorado Mines on Friday evening, 3-0.

The scores went as follows: 27-25, 26-24, and 25-20. The Yellow Jackets fall to 1-1 in school history against a ranked opponent at home.

In set one, the two teams traded off points until the end. At 23-all, the Yellow Jackets got the go-ahead point off an error by the Orediggers, causing Colorado Mines to take a timeout. BHSU needed one point to take the set, but a kill by Abby Tiesman forced a win by two situation.

From there, the Orediggers grabbed the lead off an error by the Green and Gold. On the next serve, CSM had an error to give BHSU the tying point, 25-25. Valerie Blake served next for the Yellow Jackets, and a kill by LaRose Currie moved the Orediggers into the lead again. Colorado Mines closed out the set off a kill by Janice Jin to win, 27-25, and take a 1-0 lead in the match.

In the second set, the two teams traded off points until 10-all. From there, CSM jumped out to a three-point lead at 13-10, causing BHSU to take a timeout. After the timeout, a kill by Cheyenne Palu brought the Yellow Jackets within two, at 13-11. However, the Orediggers increased the lead and kept it until 20-all.

The Green and Gold grabbed the lead at 21-20, with help from the true freshman Reilley Baty getting a service ace. However, it did not last long as the Orediggers tied it back up at 21. From there, the two teams traded off points until 24-all, forcing extra points again. Colorado Mines took the set though, 26-24, after two kills in a row by Currie and Janice Jin, to lead the match 2-0.

In set three, the two teams traded off points until 9-all. From there, the Green and Gold were unable to stop the force of the Orediggers, as CSM took the set, 25-20, and won the match, 3-0.
