SPEARFISH, S.D. – Five Yellow Jackets scored in double figures, as the Black Hills State University men's basketball team defeated South Dakota Mines, 92-69, on Tuesday evening. The Green and Gold are now 10-1 on their home court this season.
Dez Stoudamire had 22 points to lead the Yellow Jackets (11-5, 8-4 RMAC), while
Makaleb McInnis had 21 points.
Fraser Malcolm scored 15, and
Connor O'Hearn added 12 points.
Antonio Capley had a double-double off the bench, scoring 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Malcolm started off the game hitting a three-pointer 20 seconds into the game to get the scoring started. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Hardrockers (6-11, 3-9 RMAC) 40-32 in the first half, with Stoudamire and McInnis each knocking down two treys.
A three-pointer by McInnis with 19:14 left in the game put the Yellow Jackets up by 11 to start the second half. The home team slowly pushed out the lead, eventually leading by as many as 26 points. The closest South Dakota Mines got in the final 10 minutes was 15 points, but an alley-oop dunk from
Connor O'Hearn to Capley kept the Hardrockers at bay. The Green and Gold would ultimately win the rivalry conference game by 23, 92-69.
BHSU shot 58.7 percent from the field (37-for-63), while SDM was 46.4 percent from the floor (26-for-56). The Yellow Jackets were 11-for-18 (61.1 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Hardrockers were 11-for-24 (45.8 percent) on three-pointers. BHSU was 7-for-10 (70.0 percent) from the free throw line, while South Dakota Mines was 6-for-8 (75.0 percent). Â The Green and Gold outrebounded the Hardrockers, 33-26. Â
The victory is the first for the Yellow Jackets against South Dakota Mines since November 17, 2014.
For the Hardrockers, Jack Fiddler led the way with 14 points, including four three-pointers. Jacob Anastasi has 13, Logan Elers had 11 and 13 rebounds, and Brian Orr added 10 points.
The Green and Gold next host Westminster on Thursday, January 18. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
