SPEARFISH, S.D. – In the final match of the 2018 season, the Black Hills State University women's soccer team fell, 6-0, to Metropolitan State University Denver on Saturday afternoon.
The Roadrunners (10-5-1, 8-4 RMAC) jumped on the board in the ninth minute, when Taylor Reising scored off a Gabriella Gamboa assist. They would double their lead in the 12th minute, as Reising scored her second of the game. MSUD added an insurance goal in the 22nd minute.
In the 34th minute, Rachel Erickson forced a save from MSU Denver goalkeeper, Erica Torres, but the Yellow Jackets (0-17-1, 0-12-1 RMAC) were unable to break through, and entered halftime down, 3-0.
The first 15 minutes of the second half was a back-and-forth affair, but the Roadrunners took control in the 77th minute, scoring their fourth of the game. By the 82nd minute, the visitors would hold a 6-0 lead, to secure the RMAC victory.
The Roadrunners outshot the Yellow Jackets, 35-7. Erickson and Rose Miller each had two shots, while Kenisha Melanson, Ella Goodman, and Holly Burley each recorded a shot. Teagen Hartley (0-6-1) played the first half in goal, allowing three goals and making six saves. Zoe Baldwin played the final 45 minutes in net, allowing three goals and making four saves.
In addition to Reising's goals, Paloma Teran, Jessica Mooney, Gamboa, and Mackayla Duerksen each tallied a goal for MSUD. Torres (10-5-1) played all 90 minutes, earning the shutout while making three saves.
