MBB: Hot shooting carries BHSU to fourth straight win

ALAMOSA, Colo. – A first half double-double by Tyler Oliver, and 20 points from Stefan Desnica led the way, as the Black Hills State University men's basketball team took down Adams State University, 85-69, on Friday evening.      

Oliver finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists to fill up the scoreboard for the Yellow Jackets (5-3, 4-0 RMAC). Desnica had a career- and game-high 20 points and added eight boards. Connor O'Hearn recorded 14 points and four assists, while Dez Stoudamire added 13 points. The Green and Gold shot at least 50.0 percent from the field, and made double digit three-pointers, for the third consecutive game.

The first few minutes were back-and-forth, as the Grizzlies (2-7, 2-2 RMAC) led, 4-3, with 18:29 to play in the first. The Yellow Jackets then went on a 12-0 lead, with Oliver scoring seven of those points, to lead, 15-4, with 13:39 left in the first half. BHSU pushed its lead out to as many as 17, but the Grizzlies were able to remain within touching distance. The visitors led, 40-25, at the break. Oliver had 12 points and 10 boards after 20 minutes of play.

Adams State clawed back in the second half, drawing to within six, 49-43, with 14:18 left in the game. However, BHSU immediately responded, with Stoudamire nailing a pair of treys to put the lead back to double digits. The Yellow Jackets were able to extend their lead out to as many as 23, and ultimately won by 16, 85-69, to remain undefeated in conference play.

BHSU shot 56.1 percent from the field (32-for-57), while ASU was 42.4 percent from the floor (28-for-66). The Yellow Jackets were 11-for-22 (50.0 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Grizzlies were 5-for-23 (21.7 percent) on three-pointers. BHSU was 10-for-13 (76.9 percent) from the charity stripe, and ASU was 8-for-12 (66.7) from the free throw line. The Green and Gold outrebounded Adams State, 39-28.

John Dewey led the Grizzlies with 14 points, while RJ Brown had 11. Davere Creighton had a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.

The Green and Gold will next play at Fort Lewis on December 16 for the final game of 2018. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
