NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Black Hills State University softball team dropped a doubleheader to Trevecca Nazarene on Friday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fell, 12-2, in five innings in the first game, and 9-3 in the nightcap.

Brittany Henricksen finished the day with a home run, a double, and three RBI. Kindall Bethke recorded two RBI in the games, hitting two homers.

Trevecca Nazarene 12, BHSU 2 (5 innings)
The Trojans (3-3) jumped on the board in the first at bat of the bottom of the first, when MaKray Odom hit a home run to right field to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

The Yellow Jackets (0-6) responded in the top of the second inning. After Samantha Gill and Katelyn Odle each drew one-out walks, Brittany Henricksen doubled to left field, bringing around Gill to score and tie the game, 1-1. An inning later, the Green and Gold took a 2-1 lead after Kindall Bethke hit her third home run of the year.

The score would remain the same until the bottom of the fifth inning. After a leadoff bunt single, the next two Trojans walked to load the bases. On the following at bat, Bailey Alexander hit one over the fence, giving Trevecca a 5-1 lead with no outs. Tana Whited followed that up with a homer of her own. After an RBI walk and a two RBI single, Alexander hit her second home run of the inning, putting TNU up 12-2, and ending the game.

Morgan Smith, Bethke, Odle, and Brittany Henricksen each recorded hits in the game.

Alex Wiley threw the first 3.0 innings. She allowed one run while striking out one. Paige McGuire (0-1) took the loss for the Yellow Jackets, allowing 11 runs in 1.2 innings. Morgan Powell (1-1) earned the victory for the Trojans.

The first two innings of the second game remained scoreless. In the bottom of the third, TNU got on the board first. The Yellow Jackets responded by loading the bases with one out, however, the visitors ultimately stranded all three runners. The Trojans added a run in the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Green and Gold bats got going. Morgan Smith hit a two-run double, before Brittany Henricksen crushed her first career homer to tie up the game. Bethke followed that up with a home run of her own to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-2 lead.

However, Trevecca scored three runs of its own in the bottom of the inning, retaking the lead, 5-3. The Trojans added four insurance runs in the sixth inning. BHSU was unable to muster any more runs, and ultimately dropped the nightcap.

Smith, Brittany Henricksen, Bethke, and Maddi Fidler each notched a hit in the game.

Melissa Gellermann (0-3) took the loss, tossing 5.0 innings in the circle. She allowed five runs while striking out three. McGuire threw the final inning, striking out one. Savannah Carr (1-1) earned the victory for Trevecca.

The Green and Gold will remain in Nashville, and are scheduled to play Bellarmine on Saturday, February 17 at 11 a.m., before having a rematch against Trevecca at 3 p.m.
