WBB: Yellow Jackets defeat Eagles on the road

CHADRON, Neb. – The Black Hills State women's basketball team overcame a slow start and defeated Chadron State College, 66-54, on Friday evening.

Lyndzi Rich had 14 points to lead the way for the Yellow Jackets (21-6, 15-6 RMAC). Keely Bertram had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The first quarter as back-and-forth for the first seven minutes, but with 2:33 remaining in the quarter, Kendra Baucom made a layup to put the Eagles (5-20, 3-16 RMAC) up 13-11. Chadron State proceeded to take a 17-11 lead after the first period.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second period by immediately tying the game up, with Rich making three jumpers in a row. BHSU was unable to give themselves any breathing room, however, and entered halftime with a one-point lead, 28-27, at halftime.

In the third quarter, with the Yellow Jackets leading, 30-29, with 8:32 left in the period, Bertram knocked down a jumper before completing an old fashioned three-point play to give the visitors a 35-29 lead. BHSU remained in control the rest of the game, pushing the lead out to as many as 16, and ultimately winning comfortably, 66-54.

BHSU shot 33.9 percent from the field (21-for-62), while CSC was 32.3 percent from the floor (20-for-62). The Yellow Jackets were 3-for-17 (17.6 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Eagles were 2-for-13 (15.4 percent) on three-pointers. The Green and Gold outrebounded CSC, 53-36.

Taryn Foxen led all scorers with 19 points, while Kalli Feddersen added 10 points for Chadron State.

The Green and Gold will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, February 24. The Yellow Jackets will take on Regis beginning at 3:30 p.m., looking to clinch a home playoff game.
