MBB: BHSU falls to Regis in RMAC First Round

DENVER, Colo. – In the team's first RMAC Tournament appearance, the Black Hills State University men's basketball team fell to Regis, 78-66, on Tuesday evening.

Fraser Malcolm scored 18 points to lead the way for the Yellow Jackets (15-12). Dez Stoudamire recorded 14 points, while Stefan Desnica chipped in 10.

The Rangers (24-5) got out to an 11-4 lead to start off the game. BHSU fought back to within one multiple times in the first half, but Regis eventually pushed its lead out to 10 with 4:30 left in the period. The Green and Gold went into halftime trailing, 35-27.

The Yellow Jackets were unable to get closer than six points in the second half. After a layup by Malcolm to bring BHSU within 43-37, the Rangers went on a 10-0 lead to take control of the game. While the visitors were able to get within nine with six minutes remaining, the No. 2 seed Rangers held off the Green and Gold and captured the 78-66 victory to move on in the RMAC Tournament.  

BHSU shot 45.3 percent from the field (24-for-53), while RU was 48.3 percent from the floor (28-for-58). The Yellow Jackets were 8-for-23 (34.8 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Rangers were 4-for-15 (26.7 percent) on three-pointers. BHSU was 10-for-14 (71.4 percent) from the free throw line, while Regis was 13-for-24 (75.0 percent).  The Green and Gold were outrebounded, 36-29.

Dexter Sienko led all scorers with 27 points, while Christian Little had 18, and Ty Mcgee had 15 for the Rangers.

The Green and Gold conclude their season with a 15-12 overall record. The Yellow Jackets made the RMAC Tournament for the first time since joining, and had the best overall record and conference record (12-10) since the 2010-11 season.
