SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team closes out its five game road stretch in Rapid City, South Dakota, at in-state rival South Dakota Mines on Tuesday, February 6, with tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
THE GAME - SD Mines
- The two teams meet for the second time this season on the hardwood in Rapid City, South Dakota. The first time these two teams met the Yellow Jackets defeated the Hardrockers, 80-52.
- Anna Haugen leads the Lady Hardrockers offense and defense with 10.3 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game in all 23 games. Sami Steffeck is right behind with 9.9 ppg and 3.6 rpg.
- South Dakota Mines currently sits in ninth place in the conference with a 9-8 RMAC record and 14-9 overall record.
THE COACHES
- Black Hills State University head coach Mark Nore enters his 16th season with the Yellow Jackets and owns a 279-181 record. He is the all-time wins leader for the Yellow Jacket basketball team.
- Ryan Larsen enters his fifth season at the helm of the Hardrockers program. Larsen led the Hardrockers to a 10-16 record in his first season. In his fourth year with SD Mines, Larsen led the team to its first ever RMAC post-season tournament. Prior to SD Mines, Larsen served five years as the assistant women' s basketball coach at the University of South Dakota, and was a member of the Augustana men's basketball team from 2002-07.
LAST TIME OUT
Black Hills State snapped a six game win streak, losing both games this past weekend to MSU Denver and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs by scores of 77-63 and 65-54, respectively.
Against MSU Denver,
Remi Wientjes notched a career-high 16 points, going 6-of-11 from the floor, 2-of-5 from downtown, and 2-of-6 from the line.
Rachel Erickson was right behind with 14 points. On defense,
Lyndzi Rich grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Against UCCS, Rich led the offense with 11 points, going 7-of-8 from the line and 2-of-4 from the floor.
Katie Messler grabbed six boards.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Yellow Jackets currently sit in sixth place after dropping two games this past weekend to MSU Denver and UCCS. With five games remaining in the season, the Green and Gold are looking to make their fourth RMAC Tournament appearance since joining in 2012. Black Hills State is 3-3 in postseason RMAC appearances. It finished runner-up in 2013-14, going 3-1 in the tournament falling to Colorado Mesa in the Championship game. In 2014-15 and 2015-16, BHSU fell in the first round.
Following Tuesday night's matchup, the Yellow Jackets return home for their final two home games of the season, starting with Colorado Christian on Saturday, February 10. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
