GOLDEN, Colo. – The Black Hills State University softball team swept a doubleheader with Colorado School of Mines on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets (5-15, 5-7 RMAC) won the first game, 7-2, before defeating the Orediggers (15-13, 9-7 RMAC), 2-1, in game two.
The Green and Gold went 3-1 against CSM this weekend, which was the first time BHSU has won at least three games in a four-game series since the team beat CSU Pueblo four straight times in 2016.
BHSU 7, CSM 2
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first, going up 1-0 in the top of the first inning. BHSU used a big four-run second inning to take control of the game.
Maddi Fidler opened the inning with a home run. With the bases loaded and two outs,
Samantha Gill put the ball in play, forcing the Orediggers into a mistake, and allowing
Morgan Smith and
Katelyn Odle to come around and score.
Maddie London then came up to bat, hitting a single through the left side, bringing home
Kindall Bethke, and giving the visitors a 5-0 lead.
The Green and Gold added an insurance run in the fourth inning, on an RBI double by
Brittany Henricksen. In the fifth inning,
Bryce Henricksen recorded an RBI single to put the Yellow Jackets up, 7-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Orediggers scored one run, and had the bases loaded, before
Melissa Gellermann forced a popup to end the threat.
Colorado School of Mines got one run back in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the BHSU defense held firm, earning the 7-2 RMAC victory.
Four Yellow Jackets recorded a run batted in during the game. Odle was 3-for-5 in the game, with three runs scored. London and Fidler each had two hits, while Bryce and
Brittany Henricksen each recorded on hit.

The Orediggers loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning, but were unable to bring any runs across. BHSU took advantage, going up, 1-0, in the top of the second on an RBI single by Fidler. The Yellow Jackets scored again in the third, this time on an RBI single by London.
CSM led off the fourth inning with a homer by Megan Dickson to come within one, 2-1. Although the Orediggers got runners on in each of the final three innings, the Green and Gold kept them off the board to seal a sweep of the day.
