SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University softball team will host Chadron State College for a four-game series at Energy Capital Sports Complex in Gillette, Wyo., this weekend. The Yellow Jackets and Eagles will play at doubleheader beginning at noon on Friday, March 23, before playing two on Saturday, March 24, beginning at 11 a.m.
Scouting the Eagles (8-17, 6-9 RMAC)
Chadron State College, located in Chadron, Nebraska, most recently split a four-game series with UCCS. Prior to that, they lost three of four to Regis in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
The Eagles are currently hitting .255 as a team, led by Kayla Michel, who hits .361. Leilani Niccum leads CSC with five home runs and 16 RBI. Â
The Eagle pitching staff has a combined 3.16 earned run average. Jessica Jarecki (5-9) has a 2.36 ERA, throwing 13 complete games. She has struck out an RMAC-leading 100 batters in 86.0 innings pitched. Megan Horn (3-7) has a 4.11 earned run average in 59.2 innings. She has struck out 59, and thrown seven complete games. Â Â
CSC is currently in ninth place in RMAC standings with a 6-9 conference record.
The Last Time Out
The Yellow Jackets took three of four games from Colorado School of Mines last weekend. BHSU won the first game of the series, 3-2, before falling, 8-3, in the second game. The Green and Gold swept Sunday's DH, winning 7-2, and 2-1.
Melissa Gellermann threw two complete game victories, allowing just two runs in each, while
Alex Wiley also earned a complete game victory in the circle.
Bryce Henricksen hit .455 over the weekend, recording three RBI.
Maddie London also had three runs batted in, while
Maddi Fidler brought two runs in.
Samantha Gill hit .556 over the four games with one RBI.
Jacket Leaders
Maddi Fidler leads the Green and Gold with a .377 batting average.
Alex Wiley (.333) leads the squad with five homers and nine runs batted in, while
Kindall Bethke has four home runs.
Maddie London also has nine RBI.
Melissa Gellermann (3-7) leads the squad with a 5.10 ERA, striking out 51 in 68.2 innings, while
Alex Wiley (2-5) has a 5.64 earned run average. She has struck out 18 in 36.0 innings of work.
Next Up
After the four-game series with the Eagles, the Yellow Jackets are scheduled to travel to New Mexico Highlands University for four games. The Green and Gold will play the Cowgirls in two games beginning at noon on Friday, March 30, before playing a doubleheader on Saturday, March 31, with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.
