SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team fell to the University of Sioux Falls, 4-0, on Monday morning.
USF (1-1) began the match with a handful of shots in the first five minutes, before action calmed down for the next 15 minutes. In the 22nd minute, Mikayla Hernandez recorded the first shot of the day for the Yellow Jackets (0-3). However, neither team were able to break through until the 42nd minute, when the Cougars took a 1-0 lead.
Sioux Falls came out in the second half on the front foot, keeping the ball in its attacking third for 10 minutes before adding a second goal. The Cougars added insurance goals in the 79th and 89th minutes to secure the 4-0 victory.
The Yellow Jackets were outshot, 17-4. Rose Miller led the Green and Gold with two shots. Dz-Rae Jara played 30 minutes in goal, making two saves, before having to exit due to an injury. Zoe Baldwin (0-1) played the final 60 minutes, making five saves and allowing four goals.
Taylor Kelley, Chessa Novotny, Lily McKown, and Erin O'Tool scored for the Cougars.
BHSU is next in action on Thursday, September 6. The Yellow Jackets will play the University of Mary in Billings, Montana, kicking off at 1 p.m.
