BILLINGS, Mont. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team fell to the Montana State University Billings, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.
"I thought we saw growth in some areas of today's performance. We had moments in our attack when we were able to find the ball in behind, and that's something that we had been struggling with offensively," said assistant coach Hannah Holm. "We have a lot of work to do going into RMAC next weekend, but if we stay the course, I believe we will continue to progress in the right direction."
The Yellowjackets (2-1-1) opened the game with a pair of chances in the first four minutes, forcing a save from Zoe Baldwin, and hitting the crossbar. Ella Goodman recorded the first shot for the Yellow Jackets (0-5) in the sixth minute. MSUB took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. BHSU had two more shots in the half, but were unable to break through, and entered the break down, 1-0.
MSU Billings added goals in the 56th and 82nd minutes. Rachel Erickson took a shot in the 89th minute, which forced a save from Yellowjacket keeper Erinn Harder, but BHSU ultimately fell, 3-0.
The Yellowjackets outshot the Yellow Jackets, 19-6. Erickson and Goodman each had two shots to lead BHSU. Zoe Baldwin (0-3) played all 90 minutes in net, allowing three goals and making three saves.
Claire Tevaseu, Jordan Devoto, and Alexa Iacolucci scored for MSUB.
"I felt today's game was one of our better performances," said freshman Ella Goodman. "Overall, an improvement has been seen as we all know our individual roles and are developing a better understanding of how to play off one another."
The Green and Gold will next open the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule next weekend. The Yellow Jackets head to Fort Lewis on September 14, before playing Adams State on September 15. Kickoff in Durango will be at 2:30 p.m., and at noon in Alamosa.
