GOLDEN, Colo. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team fell to Colorado School of Mines, 78-67, on Saturday night. The Yellow Jackets are now 6-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, and 7-8 overall.
Three players from Black Hills State reached double-figure scoring, led by
Fraser Malcolm with 19 points and five rebounds.
Dez Stoudamire totaled 14 points, while
Tyler Oliver had 10.
Antonio Capley also tallied five boards for the Yellow Jackets.
After a back-and-forth affair in the opening minutes of the first half, Colorado School of Mines (14-3, 11-0 RMAC) took a 24-16 lead over the Yellow Jackets. BHSU cut the deficit with a layup from
Sava Dukic, to go into the halftime break trailing, 34-30.
A three-point play by
Makaleb McInnis, and shot beyond the arc by Stoudamire, kept the margin down to single digits for the Yellow Jackets. Unable to string together a successful run, the Yellow Jackets would ultimately fall, 78-67.
The Orediggers had five players with double-figure scoring. Mason Baker and Ben Clare led Mines with 17 points each. Michael Glen recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Colorado School of Mines shot 56.0 percent from the field (28-for-50), while BHSU was 46.9 percent (23-for-49) from the floor. The Orediggers were 7-for-16 (43.8 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Yellow Jackets were 8-for-23 (34.8 percent). Mines was 83.3 percent from the charity stripe (15-for-18), while BHSU was 76.5 percent (13-for-17). The Orediggers outrebounded the Green and Gold, 33-19.
The Green and Gold will be back in action to host a four-game home stand, starting with New Mexico Highlands and CSU-Pueblo on January 25 and 26. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m., on Friday night against the Cowboys, and 7 p.m., on Saturday against the Thunderwolves.
