VB: Yellow Jackets Thrill Again Beating Fort Lewis in Five Sets

Spearfish, SD- The Black Hills State University Volleyball team got a home conference sweep by defeating Fort Lewis in five sets. It is their first weekend sweep since the first weekend of the season. The Jackets victory over the Skyhawks takes them to 8-5 in RMAC play.

The Yellow Jackets came out ready to play and easily took the first set 25-14. Then in the second they escaped with a narrow 25-23 victory secured by back to back kills by Madee Hoopman and Sierra Ward.

After the break between sets 2 and 3, Fort Lewis responded with a pair of wins, both 25-20. For the Skyhawk offense, Bailey Longacre lead the way with 13 kills and just 2 errors giving Fort Lewis some needed momentum.

Once again putting the home crowd on edge, the fifth and final set went back and forth between the Jackets and the Skyhawks, ultimately leaving the Yellow Jackets victorious. It was a teeter totter of scoring for each team up to the switch at 8 points. Then the Yellow Jackets took off not to be caught. Kindra Cerrone sealed the game with three straight kills, pushing BHSU's lead to 12-9. The skyhawks were unable to respond to that aggressive offensive push.

Threee BH players all recorded double digit kills. Sierra Ward led the way with 17 while Cerrone and Mariah Robinson each recorded 13. Laurel Lech was the leader for assists with 40. On the defensive side, Haedyn Rhoades put up impressive dig numbers with 40. Jessy Hibl and Cerrone both recorded double digit digs at 17 and 13 respectively.
