WBB: Racquel Wientjes drops 35 points as Yellow Jackets Win

Spearfish, SD - Lead by an impressive 35 points from Racquel Wientjes, the Black Hills State University Women's Basketball team defeated the Texas A&M International Dustdevils 78-56. Wientjes career game high moved the Yellow Jackets to 2-0 on the season and perfect at home so far.

Wientjes had impressive stats across the board. In her 32 minutes of play she was 13-16 on her shots, had 3 rebounds, hit 100 percent of her free throws, and tied Julia Seamans record of most three pointers in a game at eight. She was 8 for 10 beyond the arc.

Morgan Ham also had a solid night putting up 22 points. She shot 8 for 13 and was good for three of six beyond the arc.

"Racquel put in two hours of gym time tonight before the game and it paid off," said head coach Mark Nore. "She had a record breaking night. Overall, the team did a great job of getting her and Morgan Ham the ball."

Ashley Davis and Abby Switzer helped keep the ball in Yellow Jacket possession recording 9 and 8 rebounds respectively.

The Yellow Jackets came out swinging in the first quarter, putting up 27 points. The Dustdevils responded in the second putting up 18 of their own to make it 36-35 Yellow Jackets at the half. The third quarter saw even play by both squads with the Yellow Jackets out-scoring the Dustdevils 21-20. However, the contest was in no question during the fourth quarter. BHSU shut down the Dustdevils on a 12-0 run, scoring 21 points it the quarter, while holding the Dustdevils to just one point.

"Our defense showed up fourth quarter. The team played with toughness and a lot of grit," said Nore.

The Yellow Jackets are next in action against Montana State University-Billings. Tip off is at 6 PM on Wednesday November 13th at the Donald Young Center.
