The Black Hills State University volleyball team was in action this weekend against Chadron State and Metro State. Facing stout competition, The Yellow Jackets fell to Chadron 1-3 and were swept by the Roadrunners 0-3.
The Yellow Jackets kept it close on Friday night against Chadron. BHSU forced Chadron to extra points in the first set but ultimately fell 24-26. In a nail bitter second set, the Yellow Jackets prevailed 25-23. However, the Eagles came out hitting hard in the third set and sank the Yellow Jackets 25-16. Backed into a must win situation, the Green and Gold fought admirably, but it wasn't enough and Chadron took the set 25-22.
Sierra Ward again lead with kills, posting 17. Madee Hoopman was close behind with 13 kills. Assisting those kills were Laurel Lech and Tess Thomas who put up 28 and 26 assists respectively. Lech and Thomas also recorded 12 and 11 digs.
Haedyn Rhodes improved her average with another mind boggling 35 digs. That was just shy of nine digs a set.
On Saturday night at Metro, the Yellow Jackets struggled offensively, losing in the three straight sets 14-25, 18-25, and 16-25. Sierra Ward led the attack with eight kills.
Once again, Haedyn Rhodes recorded an impressive amount of digs with 22. Laurel Lech also posted double digit digs with 12.
Regular season action ends on Friday, November 15th at 7pm as the Jackets take on South Dakota School of Mine in Rapid City.
