MBB: Stoudamire's 26 pace Yellow Jackets to win over Eagles

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Dez Stoudamire scored a career-high 26, as the Black Hills State University men's basketball team defeated Chadron State College, 82-62, on Friday evening.

Stoudamire had 26 points to lead the Yellow Jackets (10-8, 9-5 RMAC). The senior made four three pointers in his second consecutive 20-point game. Makaleb McInnis and Fraser Malcolm each added 11 points, while Stefan Desnica had seven points and nine rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets started the game on the front foot, making three treys in the first five minutes, and opening up a 12 point lead, 16-4, forcing Chadron State (10-10, 8-6 RMAC) into an early timeout. The Green and Gold pushed their lead out to as many as 17, but the Eagles went on a 15-4 run in the final 4:44 of the first half to enter the break down six, 36-30.

CSC began the second half with a bucket, cutting the deficit to four, but BHSU immediately responded, with Stoudamire draining two threes, and McInnis scoring twice, to give the Yellow Jackets a double-digit lead, 46-34, with 16:58 to play. With just under nine minutes to play, a Michael Sparks layup brought the Eagles back within single digits, 62-58, but the Yellow Jackets refused to let them back in the game, finishing the game outscoring Chadron State, 20-9. BHSU won, 82-62, for their 10th win of the season, and third consecutive victory.

BHSU shot 56.9 percent from the field (29-for-51), while CSC was 34.9 percent from the floor (22-for-63). The Yellow Jackets were 9-for-23 (39.1 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Eagles were 3-for-16 (18.8 percent) on three-pointers. BHSU was 15-for-20 (75.0 percent) from the charity stripe, and CSC was 15-for-15 (100.0 percent) from the free throw line. The Green and Gold outrebounded Chadron State, 35-32.

Diontae Champion led the Eagles with 17 points, while Colby Jackson added 11.

The Green and Gold wrap up their four-game homestand on February 2, hosting MSU Denver. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.
