WBB: Roadrunners top Yellow Jackets, 62-50

DENVER, Colo. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team fell to Metropolitan State University of Denver, 62-50, completing a season sweep over the Yellow Jackets.

Julia Seamans led BHSU (13-9, 9-9 RMAC) with 13 points, while Ashlee Beacom and Racquel Wientjes each added nine.

MSU Denver (12-12, 11-7 RMAC) opened play with a 6-0 run to lead the Yellow Jackets in the first quarter.  A three-point shot for Racquel Wientjes brought the score within one.  With back-and-forth action, neither team was able to set a substantial lead.  Seamans drained two-straight threes to tie the game, 23-23.  There were five ties in the second quarter before the Roadrunners took a 7-2 run to lead, 36-29, at the break.

The Roadrunners kept their stride, advancing their lead in the second half.  A trey by Beacom kept the margin down to single digits for the Yellow Jackets.  Unable to string together a successful run, the Yellow Jackets would ultimately fall, 62-50.

Jaelynn Smith led the Roadrunners with 17 points and seven assists.

MSU Denver shot 49.0 percent from the field (24-for-49), while BHSU was 34.5 percent (19-for-55) from the floor.  The Roadrunners were 5-for-16 (31.3 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Yellow Jackets were 8-for-24 (33.3 percent).  MSU Denver was 81.8 percent from the charity stripe (9-for-11), while BHSU was 80.0 percent (4-for-5).  The Roadrunners outrebounded the Yellow Jackets, 42-22.

The Yellow Jackets will next head to Nebraska to take on Chadron State on Febraury 16.  Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. against the Eagles.
