WBB: BHSU defeats Chadron State, Nore records 300th win

CHADRON, Neb. – Head Coach Mark Nore recorded his 300th win as the Black Hills State University women's basketball team defeated Chadron State, 85-57, on Saturday night.  The victory against the Eagles was the final road game for the Yellow Jackets to tally a 11-4 away record. 

Five Yellow Jackets (14-9, 10-9 RMAC) had double-figure scoring, led by Racquel Wientjes with 19 points.  Senior Julia Seamans recorded 15, while Morgan Ham added 13.  Alyssia Martinez and Morgan Koepsell tallied 11 points each.'

Neither team was able to break away with a meaningful lead in the first quarter, until the Yellow Jackets took control of a 10-0 run to lead the Eagles (4-21, 3-16 RMAC), 25-15. A layup by Koepsell put the Green and Gold ahead 15, before advancing their lead, 39-25, into halftime. 

The Yellow Jackets opened the second half with a two-point play by Racquel Wientjes, to start a 9-4 run to keep the momentum.  Martinez drained a three-pointer to keep the Green and Gold ahead, 57-32.  In the final quarter, a trey for Ashlee Beacom gave the Yellow Jackets their largest lead of the night with 30.  

Taryn Foxen led the Eagles with 16 points and seven rebounds.

BHSU shot 41.7 percent from the field (25-for-60), while CSC shot 39.3 percent from the floor (22-for-56).  The Yellow Jackets were 12-for-28 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Eagles were 1-for-10 (10.0 percent) for three-pointers.  BHSU was 74.2 percent at the charity stripe (23-for-31), while Chadron State was 66.7 percent (12-for-18) from the free throw line.  The Green and Gold were outrebounded, 39-35.

Black Hills State will next finish the regular season with a three-game homestand, starting with a rematch against Colorado School of Mines, on February 22.  Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. against the Orediggers.
