WBB: Fourth quarter rally secures Yellow Jacket victory

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team defeated Colorado School of Mines, 64-51, on Friday evening to split the season series.

Four Yellow Jackets had double figure scoring in the victory over the Orediggers (16-9, 13-7 RMAC).  Racquel Wientjes led the Yellow Jackets (15-9, 11-9 RMAC) with 17 points and five rebounds. Morgan Koepsell followed with 14 points, while Morgan Ham totaled 13, and Julia Seamans added 12.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out early using a 11-2 run, to push ahead of the Orediggers, 18-9, led by three treys from Racquel Wientjes in the first quarter.  The Orediggers offense made an adjustment to bring the game within one, before a jumper by Nicole Archambeau tied the game, 22-22, at the break.

After three lead changes, the Orediggers took charge of the score to lead the Green and Gold by five.  In the fourth quarter, a three-pointer for Julia Seamans opened the final quarter to give the Yellow Jackets back the lead.  BHSU took hold of a 13-3 run to advance their lead by 11, eventually taking a 64-51 victory. 

Colorado School of Mines was led by Archambeau with 17 points and nine boards.

BHSU shot 34.4 percent from the field (21-for-61), while CSM shot 33.3 percent (21-for-63) from the floor.  The Yellow Jackets were 7-for-21 from beyond the arc (33.3 percent), while the Orediggers were 2-for-16 on three-pointers (12.5 percent).  Black Hills State shot 83.3 percent from the charity stripe (15-for-18), while Colorado School of Mines shot 53.8 percent (7-for-13) from the free throw line.  The Green and Gold were outrebounded, 46-39.

The Yellow Jackets will next face UCCS on February 23 to finish weekend play.  Tip off is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday.
