SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University track and field teams head to Brookings, S.D. this weekend for the SDSU Indoor Classic. Featuring over 1500 athletes from over 40 schools, competition is poised to be stout in one of the largest track and field meets in the Midwest. Times and marks should be impressive as this is the first time the entire squad travels down to lower elevation to compete on an oversized track (300 meters). Action begins Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. with the women's weight throw. The meet will continue into Saturday with the 5,000 meters at 9 a.m. CST, kicking the day off.
"Last weekend at NDSU we saw some really good performances and started building some momentum," said head coach
Seth Mischke. "I know the entire team is ready to face some of the best competition we'll see this season."
After a massive nine inch PR this past weekend, sophomore
Jordyn Huneke is currently third in the nation in the pole vault. That mark leads the RMAC and is just inches outside of the automatic qualifying mark for the National Championships. In the high jump, sophomore
Allan McDonnell is tied for 12
th in the nation while junior
Tristan Hepp is tied for 18
th. Those marks are good for second and third in the RMAC rankings.
On the track,
Jonah Theisen is currently 20
th in the nation in the 3k, which is 11
th in the incredibly stacked RMAC.
In the RMAC conference standings,
Tristan Hepp is also fourth in the 200m, while junior
Taylor Hepp is fourth in the 400m. McDonnell is currently 10
th in the triple jump. New to the top-10 RMAC lists is senior
Ryan Olsen, who moved to seventh in the heptathlon after his school record setting performance a week ago. Senior
Seth Kovar remains in 10
th in the 60m hurdles. Junior
Jordan Theisen remains at eight in the mile, and ninth in the 800m.
Senior
Alexandra Richards joins Huneke atop the RMAC list as she is currently first in the high jump. Sophomore
Whitney Scott continues to be seventh in the pole vault, while freshman
Kyla Sawvell is eighth in the weight throw, and sophomore
Maddi Fidler is 10
th in shot put. On the track, senior Shanya Soderstrom is sixth in the 200m, while seniors
Cailey Roth and
Tori Moore are at ten in the 800m and 5k, respectively.
