PUEBLO, Colo. – Three Yellow Jackets scored in double figures, as the Black Hills State University men's basketball team secured its fifth straight win after defeating CSU-Pueblo, 89-63, on Friday night.
Makaleb McInnis led BHSU (12-8, 11-5 RMAC) with 21 points, followed by
Tyler Oliver (19) and
Fraser Malcolm (18). Oliver led the Green and Gold, bringing down seven boards.
The Yellow Jackets set the tone in the first half, jumping out to an early 9-3 lead, with a layup by
Stefan Desnica. A free throw for the Thunderwolves (6-16, 4-12 RMAC) brought the game within four, before BHSU went on a 10-4 run to advance their lead by 10.
Fraser Malcolm made a shot in the paint for the Yellow Jackets to lead, 47-34, at halftime.
In the second half, the Green and Gold pushed ahead 18, to lead CSU-Pueblo. A three-point shot for Oliver kept the Yellow Jackets momentum. With 32 seconds left in regulation, a three-point play by
Sava Dukic secured Black Hills State's 89-64 victory.
Jonathon Hall led the Thunderwolves with 11 points, while BJ Hardy totaled 10.
BHSU shot 55.4 percent from the field (31-for-56), while CSUP was 42.1 percent from the floor (24-for-57). The Yellow Jackets were 13-for-33 (39.4 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Thunderwolves were 6-for-23 (26.1 percent) on three-pointers. BHSU was 14-for-16 (87.5 percent) from the charity stripe, and CSUP was 10-for-20 (50 percent) from the free throw line. CSU-Pueblo outrebounded the Green and Gold, 34-31.
The Yellow Jackets will continue on the road to face New Mexico Highlands, on Saturday, Feb. 9. Game time is set for 7 p.m. against the Cowboys, in Las Vegas, N.M.
