ALAMOSA, Colo. – Crystal Amaral recorded a career high of 11 strikeouts, as the BHSU softball team split Saturday's doubleheader with Adams State. The Yellow Jackets (6-8, 3-4 RMAC) defeated the Grizzlies, 5-3, in the opener before falling, 6-4, in game two.
Game 1: BHSU 5, ASU 3
Adams State (4-18, 4-6 RMAC) jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning using a throwing error to take a 2-0 lead. The Grizzlies held the Yellow Jackets before adding another run in the third.
BHSU responded with three runs of their own to tie up the game in the top of the fifth.

Bryce Henricksen singled to center field to bring in Sami Schoen and
Brittany Henricksen.
Two triples in the seventh inning proved to be the difference maker, when London knocked her first career triple to left center to get things going, followed by
Kindall Bethke driving her own the other way to give the go ahead 5-3 lead. With two strikeouts and a grounder in the bottom of the inning, Black Hills State was able to hold the Grizzlies to secure the victory.
Six Yellow Jackets registered a hit against ASU, while Bethke and
Brittany Henricksen each totaled a pair of RBI.
Crystal Amaral (4-4) went the distance for BHSU, allowing only three hits, and three runs in seven complete innings. Amaral totaled a new career high after striking out 11 batters.
Game 2: ASU 6, BHSU 4
BHSU attacked early to lead Adams State, 1-0, to open game two of the doubleheader. Sami Gill singled to left center to load the bases, before an error in right field scored
Katelyn Odle from third. The Grizzlies responded with an RBI single for Shelby Haskins to advance ASU ahead, 2-1.
The Yellow Jackets tied the score, 3-3, before an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth pushed ASU ahead. An RBI single through the left side for Bethke tied the score again in the sixth. However, the Grizzlies regained the advantage with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Adams State held the Green and Gold to take a 6-4 victory.
As a team, the Green and Gold outhit the Grizzlies, 12-10, led by
Katelyn Odle with three hits and three runs.
Alex Wiley (3-4) recorded the loss, allowing 10 hits, and striking out three in 5.2 innings.
The Yellow Jackets wrap up the series against Adams State with a Sunday doubleheader. First pitch is set for 11 a.m., in Alamosa, Colo.
