SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University triathlon team is set to host the West Regional Qualifier for the 2019 Women's Collegiate Triathlon season. The race on Sunday morning will be held at Belle Fourche Reservoir.

The race is one of three national qualifiers this year. All collegiate teams must compete at one of the triathlons in order to earn a spot at the Collegiate National Championships. The West Regional, hosted by BHSU this weekend, is the first of the year.

The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a 750-meter swim in the reservoir. The student-athletes will then have a 20-kilometer bike, followed by a 5-kilometer run.

The Yellow Jackets opened their season August 31 at the Southern Hills Triathlon. They swept the women's podium in the sprint distance, with Myna Buckley winning and Chelsea Basford and Hannah Hirschi placing second and third, respectively. Mathilde Bernard won the female duathlon sprint event, and Kennedy Teeslink completed the swim and bike portion of the winning sprint relay team.

Following the West Regional Qualifier, the Yellow Jackets will travel to Vermillion, S.D., to compete in the University of South Dakota Invite on September 22.
