Lakewood, CO – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team defeated the Colorado Christian University Cougars 68-55 Friday night. The Yellow Jackets move to 8-5 on the season and 5-3 in the RMAC.
The Yellow Jackets jumped ahead to an early lead in the first quarter and capped off the first ten minutes of play on a 6-0 run to lead 17-8. The second quarter was an offensive shoot out which saw CCU try to claw their way back with 21 points, however BHSU held the lead at half 35-29. Another 19 points in the third quarter sealed the game for the Yellow Jackets.
The Green and Gold were able to connect well with the net tonight. They were hitting 45 percent from the field, 41 percent from beyond the arc, and 73 percent at the charity stripe.
Morgan Ham and
Racquel Wientjes were the big scorers on the night. Ham, who posted 15 points and seven defensive boards, was 7 for 12 from the field and hit 33 percent of her three pointers. Wientjes put up 16 points and six rebounds. She was perfect under pressure, hitting all eight of her free throw attempts.
Katie Messler also posted seven rebounds.
The Green and Gold are next in action tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm against Regis University.
