Denver, CO – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team defeated the Regis University Rangers Saturday night 71-59 to get the weekend RMAC sweep. The Yellow Jackets move to 9-5 on the season and 6-3 in the RMAC.
A hot first quarter saw the Green and Gold jump to an early 15-9 lead. Regis tried to stay competitive in the second quarter going shot for shot with the Yellow Jackets but BHSU held the advantage at half 35-28. Another solid shootout in the fourth quarter was enough to allow the Yellow Jackets to breeze past the rangers.
The team had a strong shooting percentage overall from the field, making 53 percent of their baskets and were good for 66 percent of their free throw attempts. They also hit nine three-pointers on the night.
Racquel Wientjes had a phenomenal night posting a double double. She posted 24 points and 11 rebounds. She was shooting 50 percent from the field, an impressive 57 percent from beyond the arc, and was again perfect at the charity stripe, making all four of her free throw attempts. Wientjes also recorded three steals.
Morgan Ham made up the other bulk of points with her 20. She hit 70 percent of her shots from the field, made two of three three-pointers, and posted two rebounds.
The Green and Gold return home next weekend to take on UCCS Friday night at 5:30pm and Colorado School of Mines on Saturday at 4:00pm.
