Men's Basketball looks to Extend Home Win Streak

Spearfish, SD – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team resumes action this weekend at the Donald Young Center. On Friday, they host Western Colorado at 5:30pm and take on Colorado Mesa on Saturday at 4:00pm.
 
The Yellow Jackets are 6-5 on the season and 3-2 in RMAC play. They are coming off a blowout win over Dickinson State winning 90-62 on December 20th and are currently on a three game home win streak. Joel Scott leads the offense as he is currently the 8th best shooter in the RMAC this season. He is scoring 17.1 points per game, shooting 60.2 percent from the field and 54.5 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Tyler Oliver is posting 14.5 points a game but is second in the RMAC with his 9.1 rebounds per game and third in the RMAC with his 5 assists per game.
 
Western Colorado enters the weekend 5-6 and 2-3 in the RMAC. They last lost to Colorado Mesa on Dec. 20, 49-71. Cole Sienknech will need to be contained as he leads the Mountaineers in scoring at 13.5 points per game. He's also averaging 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists. Since 2012, the Yellow Jackets lead the series 7-3 lasting beating the Mountaineers 77-69 a year ago.
 
Colorado Mesa currently sits at second in the conference as they are 8-3 on the season and 4-1 in the RMAC. Last time out, Mesa downed Western State 71-49 on Dec. 20th. Kolton Peterson will need to be guarded as he is currently one of the nation's best three point shooters making 53 percent of his shots. Since 2012, The Mavericks have a slight advantage in the series leading the Yellow Jackets 8-6. The Yellow Jackets were victorious in the last match up of March 2019 winning 73-70.
 
Following this weekend, the Yellow Jackets take to the road to play Colorado Christian University and Regis University.
