Spearfish, SD - Coming off another weekend sweep, the Black Hills State men's basketball team will look to increase their nine game winning streak this weekend as they hit the road. On Friday, they will take on New Mexico Highlands at 7:30 pm in Las Vegas, New Mexico and Colorado State University-Pueblo on Saturday at 7:30 pm. The Yellow Jackets are sitting at 9-2 in the RMAC and 12-5 overall. They are currently tied for first in the league and ranked seventh in the South Central Region.
Currently, Black Hills State sits second in the conference for field goal percentage, at 50% field goal percentage. Leading the way, is freshman
Joel Scott, shooting a solid 61% field goal percentage which leads the conference. The team also leads the conference in defensive rebounds per game
The Green and Gold boast balanced scoring with four players averaging double figures. Scott averages 16.7 PPG (fifth in the RMAC) while
Tyler Oliver averages 15.1 PPG and has the fifth most assists per game in the league at 4.2.
Trey Whitley averages 12.4 PPG and
Stefan Desnica is right behind with 11.5 PPG.
New Mexico Highland Cowboys
The NM Highland Cowboys are tied for third in RMAC play with a 7-4 conference record and 12-4 overall record. They are sitting first in the conference for PPG, averaging 92.2. Sammy Barnes-Thompkins and Raquan Mitchell lead the Cowboys, averaging 24.8 PPG and 22.2 PPG respectively (which sits second and third in the RMAC for PPG). The last time the Yellow Jackets and the Cowboys met was for the RMAC championship game last year. The Cowboys came out on top, 79-66.
CSU Pueblo Thunderwolves
The Thunderwolves are fourth in conference standings. They are 6-5 in the RMAC and 8-9 overall. They are led by David Simental who averages 16 PPG and Brandon McGhee who averages 13.2 PPG. Last year, the Yellow Jackets won both games against the Thunderwolves.
