Chadron, NE - The Black Hills State University women's basketball team kept it exciting as they defeated the Chadron State Eagles 70-60. The Yellow Jackets are now 12-7 on the season and 9-5 in the RMAC.
Both teams opened the first ten minutes shooting hot and driving the score to 24-21 BHSU's favor. The second quarter saw more defensive paced play and the Yellow Jackets entered half with a slight 37-36 advantage. The Eagles would it keep close being within two points with only five minutes of play left. The Yellow Jackets sealed the game with a 9-0 run in the remaining minutes to pull ahead.
On the night, the team shot 40 percent from the field connecting 22 of 54 shots. That included 10 three pointers as they shot 43 percent from downtown. From the charity stripe the team was good for 16 of 24.
Morgan Ham had a big night posting 23 points, just a point shy from her career high. She was 8 for 15 on the night and hit 50 percent of her shots from beyond the arc.
Racquel Wientjes was also in double digits with 17 points. She was perfect from the free throw line and pulled down seven boards.
Katie Messler lead the team in rebounds pulling down eight on the night.
The Green and Gold are back tomorrow night to face the Roadrunners in Denver, CO. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00pm.
