Spearfish, SD – Tough shooting across the board resulted in a loss by the Black Hills State University women's basketball. They fell to the MSU Denver Roadrunners 55-64. The Yellow Jackets are now 11-7 in the RMAC and 14-9 on the season.
Black Hills opened strong dropping 18 points in the first quarter to give them a slight 26-25 advantage at half. However, the Yellow Jacket defensive could not stop the Roadrunners as the Green and Gold gave up 29 points in the third quarter. A valiant come back attempt late in the fourth was not enough to over come the Yellow Jacket deficit.
On the night the team was just 14 of 55 from the field (25 percent) including just 6 of 28 (21 percent) from beyond the arc. The story was the same at the charity stripe as the Yellow Jackets hit just 61 percent (21 for 34).
Racquel Wientjes and
Katie Messler were the only Yellow Jackets in double digits scoring 10 apiece. Wientjes was just 3 for 14 but pulled down seven boards. Messler was a little more consistent hitting 3 of 7 and recorded 2 steals.
Ashlee Beacom forced three turnovers on the night.
The Green and Gold are back in action tomorrow at 4:00pm. They take on Chadron State. The Eagles are coming off a devasting 45-73 loss to the Hardrockers.
