MBB: Number One Seed on the Line at Tech

Spearfish, SD - The Black Hills State University men's basketball team look to wrap up their season before playoffs with one last game against rival South Dakota School of Mines. The game will be on Friday, February 28th in Rapid City at 7:30 p.m. The Yellow Jackets still remained tied in first place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings, with a 16-5 conference record and 19-8 overall record.
 
Black Hills has clinched a spot in the RMAC tournament and has home game advantage for the first round. However, final standings and seeding are still very much influx and will hinge on this weekend. Despite two tough losses this past weekend, versus Colorado School of Mines and University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, the Yellow Jackets can clinch the one seed with a win and a Dixie State loss.  
 
The Yellow Jackets are led by freshman Joel Scott, averaging 17.4 points per conference game which is tied for fourth in the conference. His shooting rate of 59.9 percent is still second best in the conference. Senior Tyler Oliver and Scott sit third and twelfth in the conference for rebounding, with 7.0 and 6.0 rebounds per game, respectively. Oliver also adds 13 PPG and 3.5 assists per game. Junior Trey Whitley and senior Stefan Desnica have been key players to the Jacket's success as well. Whitley is averaging 14.4 PPG and 3 RPG while Desnica averages 8.9 PPG and 4.4 RPG. The Yellow Jackets also have an impressive, accumulative field goal percentage of 49%, which is second in the league.
 
South Dakota Mines
The Hardrockers are sitting sixth in the RMAC standings, with a 13-8 conference record and 16-11 overall record. The Green and Gold matched up with them at the beginning of the year, taking the Win in Spearfish. South Dakota Mines is coming off a 1-1 weekend, with a loss to University of Colorado-Colorado Springs but a win over Colorado School of Mines.  The Hardrockers have three players averaging double-figures, led by Alec Williams with 17.6 points per conference game, 5 RPG and 3.6 APG. Mitchell Sueker averages 16 PPG and 5.9 RPG while Logan Elers averages 11.9 PPG, 5 RPG and 2 APG.
