Spearfish, SD – The Black Hills State University softball team is hitting the road for a split series of stout competition. In Denver, they face #11 Dixie State and MSU Denver. The weekend starts against the roadrunners on Saturday at noon. Then at two the Yellow Jackets take on Dixie State. Sunday, the schedule is reversed, it's Dixie State at 1:00pm and MSU Denver at 3:00pm.
    
The Yellow Jackets currently have a 2-9 overall record and are 1-3 in RMAC play. The Green and Gold wins come over Minot State and an RMAC victory over Fort Lewis. Freshman shortstop Taryn Moan leads BHSU at the plate. She is hitting .462 with 12 hits, 2 RBI, three doubles, and one triple. Crystal Amaral is the top pitcher for the Yellow Jackers this season. She is 1-3 with a 7.09 ERA and 20 strikeouts.

The Trailblazers (15-3, 3-1 RMAC) are ranked No. 11 in the latest NFCA Division II Top-25 poll. They opened the season hot with a 12-2 non conference record. They took a 3-1 series win over CSU Pueblo to open RMAC play. Carissa Burgess leads at the mound with a 1.82 ERA, an impressive 8-0 record, and 36 strikeouts.  Saturday's game marks just the third meeting between Dixie State and Black Hills State. The Trailblazers lead 2-0 over the Yellow Jackets taking two wins, 3-1 and 5-3, last year in Denver.

The Roadrunners (10-6, 2-2 RMAC) split their RMAC opener last weekend defeating NMHU twice while falling to Colorado Christian twice. Olivia Dampier leads at the plate hitting .442. She has over 20 RBI this season and two home runs. At the mound, Kayla Banks is 5-1 with a 3.78 ERA. The Road Runners lead the series over the Yellow Jackets 17-3. Last year, the Green and Gold snapped a 12 game losing streak to MSUD winning 6-4 in the final game of the pod.
