MBB: Yellow Jackets to Host Hardrockers in First Round of RMAC Tourney

Spearfish, SD – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team made history Saturday night as they edged the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers 59-58 at the buzzer to secure their first ever RMAC Championship. They were regular season CO-Champions with Dixie State.

The Yellow Jackets now turn their attention to the post season RMAC Tournament. Having drawn the number two seed in the tournament, the Yellow Jackets will host the first round at home. Their foe will be a familiar one; The Hardrockers drew the seventh seed and will be traveling up I90 with that loss fresh on their minds. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30pm.

The Yellow Jackets finished the regular season 17-5 in the RMAC and 20-8 overall. Their defense has been top notch this year and allows only 70 points per game, the fourth lowest in the RMAC. The offense is nothing to scoff at as the team has the second highest shooting percentage from the field at 49 percent. They are led by Joel Scott who connects 60 percent of the time, the second best in the RMAC. He also is fourth in scoring, averaging 17.4 ppg. Tyler Oliver is fourth in the conference in rebounding and fifth in assists. He pulls down 6.9 boards a game while putting up 4.3 assists.

The Yellow Jackets are 33-25 all time against SDSMT since 1994. BHSU got the season sweep this year, but the games have been close. The Yellow Jackets opened up RMAC play with a narrow 70-66 win over the Rockers back in November, and again, just narrowly won Saturday night. Allec Williams leads mines with 16.6 ppg.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here: https://bhsuathletics.com/sports/2016/10/13/2017-18-season-tickets-on-sale.aspx or at the doors an hour before tip off.
