Volleyball Takes Down Cowgirls in Four

Black Hills State women's volleyball defeated New Mexico Highlands University in four sets Saturday afternoon in the Donald E. Young Center.
 
BHSU won set one (25-18), won set two (27-25), lost set three (25-18), and won set four (25-20).
 
Mariah Robinson led the Yellow Jackets in kills recording 13.
 
Karly Marx was the leader in assists for the Yellow Jackets recording 43.
 
Katie Welniak led the team in digs recording 12.
 
Four Yellow Jackets recorded aces in the match up including Karly Marx (1), Kindra Cerrone (1), Haedyn Rhoades (2), and Peyton Bodemann (2).

Madison Hoopman and Peyton Bodemann each recorded a solo block.
 
In set one the Cowgirls would get on top first going up 7-4 over the Yellow Jackets. BHSU would then go on to outscore NMHU 6-3 to tie things up at 10 all. The Yellow Jackets would not let up off the gas from that point putting up 15 points to the Cowgirls' 8 winning set one 25-18.
 
BHSU would stay hot into the second set leading by as much as four at 7-3 before the Cowgirls would tie the score at nine all before taking a two-point lead forcing a BHSU time out. From that point BHSU and NMHU would stay within one being tied ten times before BHSU would take the set two victory 27-25 over the Cowgirls taking a two-set lead.
 
The Yellow Jackets would take a four-point lead to open set three before the Cowgirls would coming storming back tying things up at four all. From that point the two teams would stay close with neither team garnering much of an advantage throughout play until the Cowgirls took a three-point lead at 16-13 forcing a BHSU time out. BHSU and NMHU would trade points to finish out the set with Highlands coming out on top 25-18 in set three.
 
Set four saw the Yellow Jackets take an early 7-2 lead over the Cowgirls forcing an early NMHU time out. Out of the timeout the Cowgirls would pull within one before BHSU would take a seven-point lead forcing another Cowgirls time out. This lead would be too much for the Cowgirls to overcome with the Jackets going on to take a 25-20 set victory while taking the match 3-1.

The Yellow Jackets hit the road for Colorado next weekend as they take on University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Friday and CSU Pueblo Saturday.
