MINOT, N.D. – The Black Hills State women's basketball team (1-1, 0-0 RMAC) faced off against the Minot State women's basketball team (2-3, 0-0 NSIC) Saturday night in the Minot State Dome.

The Yellow Jackets defeated the Beavers 56-55 in their second contest of the 2021-22 season.

Leading the way offensively for the Yellow Jackets was again
Danica Kocer recording 13 points and tallying four assists.

Defensively,
Ashlee Beacom led the team with five rebounds. Beacom also led the team in steals snagging two steals on the night.

Minot would grab their largest lead of the game at 8-2 early in the first quarter over the Yellow Jackets before BHSU would come storming back to tie things up at eight all after both Beacom and Kocer would sink back-to-back threes. The teams would be tied at 11 and 13 before BHSU would take a 19-18 lead over Minot to round out the quarter.

After a high scoring first quarter both offenses would slow down in the second as the teams' defenses would pick up. The two defenses would combine to force eight turnovers in the second quarter leading to a 25-24 score with 3 minutes to play in the half. The offenses would heat up from that point leading to a 32-31 all score at the half with the Yellow Jackets up by one.

In the third quarter the Beavers offense would come alive as they would outscore the Yellow Jackets 18-12 to take a five-point lead. Amber Stevahn would put up nine of those points become the difference maker in the quarter for the Beavers.

The Yellow Jackets would heat up in the fourth quarter going on a 10-0 scoring run to open play while showing a stout offense and only allowing Minot to put up six points in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets would edge out the Beavers after a
Niki Van Wyk lay-up would give the Yellow Jackets a 56-54 lead setting up the 56-55 victory.

As a team, the Yellow Jackets shot 45.8% (22 of 48) from the field and 33.3% (10 of 30) from beyond the arc.

At the charity stripe BHSU shot 66.7% going 2 for 3.
