Black Hills State women's basketball defeated New Mexico Highlands, 74-46, Saturday afternoon in the Donald E. Young Center.

The Yellow Jackets (5-6, 3-2 RMAC) had three double digit scorers on the night and everyone on the court for BHSU scored.

Leading the team on offense was senior
Ashlee Beacom who recorded 15 points and four assists. Engesser and Van Wyk also recorded double digit scores tallying 12 and 10 points each, respectively.

Defensively it was again Beacom leading the surge for the Yellow Jackets with seven rebounds and four steals. Freshman
Haylee Weathersby was close behind Beacom with six boards of her own.

The Yellow Jackets had yet to make a shot from the field before back-to-back threes from Van Wyk and Beacom put BHSU ahead 10-6 midway through the first. That helped BHSU to outscore NMHU 17-8 the rest of the period to take a 21-13 lead into the second.

Both teams traded possessions to open the second before the Yellow Jackets continued their hot shooting from deep. 3-pointers from Engesser, Beacom and Van Wyk down the stretch gave BHSU a 42-28 advantage at the break as they were shooting 50 percent (8-of-16) at halftime.

Back-and-forth play continued out of the locker room, but a pair of baskets from Weathersby and a Kocer three put the Yellow Jackets on a 9-2 spurt to extend to a 51-33 lead midway through the third.

BHSU held a 57-35 lead entering the final quarter and built their lead from there, outscoring NMHU 17-11 to seal the 74-46 victory.

The Yellow Jackets shot 37.7% from the field making 23 of 61 shots. From beyond the arc BHSU made 11 of 27 shots for a 40.7 shooting percentage.

At the charity stripe BHSU made 17 of 23 attempts earning a 73.9 shooting percentage from the free throw line.
